Scottish television personality Gail Porter revealed she sustained a black eye and a bruised, cut lip after being knocked down the stairs at a London Tube station last week. Porter, 55, shared details of the incident on Instagram on Thursday, posting a photograph of her injuries.

She explained that the fall occurred while she was descending stairs at a London Underground station and that she was knocked over by another passenger. This incident followed online comments criticizing her appearance. "So … to all you wonderful keyboard warriors that said I’m looking old, and saying something was wrong with my face…" Porter wrote. "I went to @trainspottingthemusical to support my friends that created this. Last week.. I was knocked over while going down the stairs at a London Tube Station."

Porter stated that her injuries are superficial and do not pose a significant problem, emphasizing that it was an accident and would not alter her spirit. She appealed for greater empathy online, adding, "Please… from the bottom of my heart.. don’t ever be disrespectful to anyone for how they look or how they are. Kindness is so invaluable x."

Fans and friends offered messages of support in the comments section of her post. Despite the injuries, Porter appeared in good spirits on Wednesday at the press night for "Trainspotting The Musical." She later posted another selfie, describing herself as a "wee Scottish Warrior" and advising people to "always look out for each other. Simple x And good concealer!!!"

Porter rose to prominence in the 1990s, hosting programs such as "Top Of The Pops" and "The Big Breakfast." In 2005, following the dissolution of her marriage to Toploader guitarist Dan Hipgrave, she lost her hair to alopecia. She has previously spoken about the impact of this condition, noting that job offers diminished significantly due to the visual nature of the television industry. She recounted instances where she struggled financially and with housing after her television career declined.

In April, Porter publicly accused TV personality Katie Price of mocking her appearance after she lost her hair. According to The Sun, Porter made the claim in the comments section of an Instagram post related to Price's documentary. She alleged that Price introduced her to a boyfriend by saying, "this is Gail. She used to be pretty when she had hair… Google her. Thanks."
