FX's comedy series "Adults" has released a surprise prequel episode titled "Marathon Day" on July 31, offering fans a look into the backstory of Paul Baker before the official premiere of Season 2 on August 27.

The new episode aims to answer questions about Paul Baker's (Jack Innanen) past and how he became connected with the main group of friends, including Billie (Lucy Freyer), Samir (Malik Elassal), Anton (Owen Thiele), and Issa (Amita Rao). While the core group has known each other for years, Paul is a more recent addition as Issa's boyfriend.

Series creators Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw expressed their excitement for the origin story, stating in a press release, "We love a good origin story, and we can’t wait for you to see where the radioactive spider bit Paul Baker."

"Marathon Day" is available to stream on Hulu for all subscribers. The streaming service offers a basic plan with ads for $11.99 per month and an ad-free version for $18.99 per month. Bundles including Disney+ and Hulu start at $12.99 per month.

Additionally, the episode can be watched on FXX, which is included in various DIRECTV streaming plans. The episode premiered on July 31 at 1 p.m. ET.

Season 2 of "Adults," consisting of eight episodes, will be released in its entirety on August 27 on Hulu.
