Future of "Dark Matter" Series Uncertain as Season 2 Concludes
Apple TV+ has yet to announce a renewal for the sci-fi series, leaving fans awaiting news on a potential third season.
The fate of the Apple TV+ science fiction series "Dark Matter" remains in limbo following the conclusion of its second season. As of the Season 2 finale, titled "No Quiet Life," the streaming service has not officially renewed the show for a third season.
The series, which is based on a novel and has garnered a "Certified Fresh" rating of 82% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes for its second season, has a built-in narrative arc planned by its creators. Producer Jacquelyn Ben-Zekry stated in an interview that the show was conceived as a trilogy, with plans in place to develop a complete story across three seasons. This suggests that the creative team has a vision for how the series would conclude, contingent on renewal.
Actor Jimmi Simpson, who plays Ryan in the series, has also expressed hope for a third season. He indicated a desire to see his character's personal life develop, potentially finding love, which would add another dimension to Ryan's journey. Simpson noted Ryan's patience and observational skills, suggesting he is waiting for the right moment for romantic development, possibly with the character Amanda.
Season 2 of "Dark Matter" consisted of 10 episodes, mirroring the structure of its first season. The finale aired on October 29. Given the approximate two-year gap between the premieres of Season 1 and Season 2, a potential third season could also face a significant wait.
Fans eager to revisit the series or catch up on past episodes can stream both seasons of "Dark Matter" on Apple TV+. The service offers a seven-day free trial for new subscribers, with a single ad-free plan available for $14.99 per month. A bundle including Apple TV+ and Peacock is also offered at the same price point.
