Fun Spot America Atlanta in Fayetteville, Georgia, will close its gates permanently on August 2, concluding nearly 40 years of operation at the site. The park, which originally opened as Dixieland Fun Park in 1990 before being acquired by Fun Spot America in 2017, has become a popular destination for thrill-seekers.
The park is particularly known for ArieForce One, a roller coaster that debuted in 2023 and features the largest zero-G stall element in the United States. The ride plunges riders down a 146-foot drop at an 83-degree angle, reaches speeds of 64 mph, and generates up to 3.75 Gs during its 100-second journey. Enthusiasts have praised ArieForce One, with some considering it among the best steel roller coasters in the world.
Fun Spot America CEO John Arie Jr. stated that the decision to close the Atlanta location was difficult. "Our Atlanta team has poured their hearts into serving our guests and creating a place where families could have fun together," Arie Jr. said in a statement to Amusement Today. "We are deeply grateful for their dedication and for the support we have received from the Fayetteville community."
The company has indicated it will work with employees throughout the transition and provide support as operations wind down. Season passes and gift cards for the Atlanta park will remain valid until the final day of operation.
News of the closure has prompted a wave of nostalgia on social media, with many patrons sharing memories of the park's earlier years as Dixieland Fun Park. The Fayetteville location featured 14 rides, including three roller coasters, go-kart tracks, family attractions, and Georgia's only legal bungee jumping tower.
Fun Spot America's parks in Orlando and Kissimmee, Florida, will remain open. The company has not disclosed the specific reasons for the Atlanta park's closure, but the situation reflects broader challenges faced by smaller regional amusement parks competing with larger entertainment conglomerates and managing operational costs.
