Fulham Manager Arbeloa Faces FA Scrutiny Over Controversial Remarks

Fulham manager Alvaro Arbeloa is likely to face disciplinary action from the Football Association following his strong post-match reaction to his team's 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday. Arbeloa suggested that the match officials were biased towards Manchester United, implying they "would not let Man United lose" and awarded "every decision" to the opposing team.

The controversial remarks came after Matheus Cunha's deflected late equalizer for Manchester United, which denied Fulham a significant victory. Arbeloa felt that a foul awarded to Manchester United's Harry Maguire approximately 35 seconds before the goal was contentious and ultimately cost his team three points.

In his initial post-match comments, Arbeloa expressed his frustration, stating, "Every decision was for them and I knew after the game against Man City that they would not let Man Utd lose. We deserved a little bit more." He added, "We were so, so close. We were a little bit unlucky again. We knew it would be difficult against this big team. We knew what happened last week. We have seen what the referee has been doing in all the matches, so it was a difficult game. And we were unlucky."

Following his initial outburst, Arbeloa appeared to temper his criticism, attributing potential misunderstandings to his English proficiency. "My English is not so good," he said. "Maybe I explain myself so bad and I prefer not to say anything about the referees because you never know."

However, Arbeloa's initial allegations of bias and questioning the integrity of match officials are typically met with sanctions by the FA, which can include fines or touchline bans. This rule has led to penalties for numerous managers, including former Fulham boss Marco Silva.

The draw, despite the controversy, did see Fulham move off the bottom of the league table, relegating Tottenham Hotspur to last place for the first time since 2009.
