A fugitive drill rapper, Daniel Boakye, 21, has been sentenced to 10 months in prison after escaping lawful custody twice and fleeing to France while facing deportation. Police have stated they lack information on how Boakye managed to leave the United Kingdom or enter France.
Boakye, who performs as Dsavv, was initially serving a six-year sentence at HMP Feltham for conspiracy to commit robbery. His first escape occurred while he was being taken to West Middlesex University Hospital. He slipped out of handcuffs while using a hospital toilet and evaded pursuing guards. He was located the following day but escaped a second time days later from Lewisham Hospital, this time while in a wheelchair and without handcuffs.
During his time on the run, Boakye released a rap video taunting authorities, referencing the TV show "Top Boy" and bragging about his freedom. He was eventually arrested 16 days after his second escape in La Bouëxière, France, a commune in Brittany.
Boakye had been convicted in 2023 for his role in a spree of robberies between June 2021 and January 2022, which involved knifepoint incidents and the theft of over £115,000 in cryptocurrency. He was days away from a parole hearing and had received a deportation order to Ghana, where he has no family. Boakye had sought to appeal the deportation but struggled to secure legal representation.
His escape from hospital custody involved him being taken to West Middlesex University Hospital after an alarm in his cell. While at the hospital, he requested to use the toilet and allegedly slipped out of escort handcuffs, which had been attached to both him and a guard. Police were called but could not locate him. He was found at a property in Thamesmead the next day.
At Lewisham Police Station, Boakye was observed swallowing what appeared to be drugs. Concerned he had ingested Class A substances, he was taken to Lewisham Hospital. For safety reasons, he was moved in a wheelchair without handcuffs for an X-ray. Following the X-ray, he reportedly bolted from the wheelchair and escaped the hospital.
An Interpol Red Notice was issued, leading to his arrest in France. Authorities have stated they have limited information regarding his departure from the UK or arrival in France. Boakye pleaded guilty to two charges of escaping lawful custody. His new sentence will be served consecutively to his existing robbery sentence, and he remains subject to a deportation order upon completion of his prison term.
