A Louisiana man has been charged with murder for allegedly killing a deputy U.S. Marshal while attempting to serve an arrest warrant. Clarence A. Frazier Jr., 48, of Alexandria, faces a potential death sentence if convicted of the slaying of Deputy U.S. Marshal Drew Hanson.

Federal officials announced the charges Tuesday. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana, multiple law enforcement officers from the U.S. Marshals Service and the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office located Frazier at his residence on July 13, 2026, to serve a warrant.

The arrest warrant was related to a prior charge of sexual battery of a person with infirmities, for which Frazier had failed to appear in state court. After law enforcement announced their presence and forced entry into the home, Frazier allegedly barricaded himself in a bedroom and opened fire on the officers.

Deputy U.S. Marshal Hanson sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange of gunfire and later died. Following a standoff, Frazier was taken into custody. The acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche stated that Frazier is now in custody and will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.

Frazier has been charged with the murder of a federal officer, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of life in prison or the death penalty. Officials described Deputy U.S. Marshal Hanson as a devoted husband, father, and son.
