Frontier Flight Attendant Restrains Passenger Attempting to Open Exit Door
A viral video shows a flight attendant pushing back a passenger who appeared to try to open an exit door after passengers were left on a hot plane at an Atlanta airport.
A Frontier Airlines flight attendant intervened when a passenger appeared to attempt opening an exit door on a plane that had been stranded at a gate in Atlanta for nearly an hour without air conditioning. The incident occurred on Wednesday at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after a flight from New Orleans landed.
A TikTok video posted by user @tavi.dinero captured the moment a woman, wearing a gray hoodie, stood at the aircraft's exit door, shouting at the crew to open it. In response, a flight attendant approached her, placed his arms around her, and pushed her back while attempting to de-escalate the situation. The passenger continued to yell, "Open the door!" as the flight attendant pleaded for time to address the situation. Other passengers were heard shouting, "Don’t put your hands on her!"
The video, which has garnered over 110,000 views, shows the flight attendant attempting to manage the growing tension among passengers.
According to reports, the Frontier flight had arrived at the gate, but a malfunctioning jet bridge prevented passengers from deplaning. The passenger who posted the video claimed that the engines and lights were turned off after the plane reached the gate, cutting off air conditioning. Passengers reported being on the plane for approximately an hour in the heat.
Comments on the video suggested that passengers began to experience distress due to the lack of air circulation. One user claimed that after 30 minutes with no air, water, or light, a passenger began hyperventilating and became unresponsive. This user also alleged that the first-class passengers were allowed off the plane and that the crew cut the plane's power before the incident at the exit door.
A spokesperson for Frontier Airlines stated that Flight 2052 arrived 20 minutes ahead of schedule and taxied to the gate. The jet bridge initially connected properly, allowing some passengers to deplane. However, the jet bridge then malfunctioned and became misaligned, prompting the crew to halt deplaning for safety reasons while maintenance addressed the issue. The airline stated that announcements were made to keep passengers informed and that deplaning resumed after the jet bridge was repaired. The spokesperson offered a sincere apology for the inconvenience and discomfort experienced by the passengers and indicated that the airline was continuing to investigate the incident.
