From Downing Street Aide to Survivalist: Mother of Four Transforms Shed into Bunker
An ex-Downing Street speechwriter, influenced by her surgeon husband, has meticulously prepared her garden shed as a survival bunker, citing global instability and potential threats.
A former speechwriter for 10 Downing Street has detailed her transformation from a skeptic of doomsday prepping to a dedicated survivalist, converting her garden shed into a meticulously stocked bunker. The shift was prompted by her husband, a surgeon, who suggested the family begin preparing for potential emergencies.
Clare Foges, a mother of four, explained in a recent article that her initial view of preppers was that they were "a couple of litres short of a jerry can." However, her husband's calm demeanor and rational approach convinced her to reconsider. "Now I - a mother-of-four and ex-No10 speechwriter - have turned my garden shed into a fully stocked survival bunker," she stated.
Her decision to prepare for potential disruptions is influenced by a range of global concerns. "Russia's threat to launch nuclear strikes on the West has also influenced the decision to start prepping," Foges noted. The evolving climate, with forecasters predicting a strong Super El Niño expected to peak in December and bring severe weather, has also contributed to the urgency.
The survival bunker is equipped with approximately 50 tins of non-perishable food, including tuna, corned beef, pears, peaches, prunes, pineapple, sweetcorn, carrots, cannellini beans, and baked beans. Basic necessities such as water purification tablets, a first-aid kit, and tools are also part of the preparedness strategy.
Foges' experience in government has provided her with a unique perspective on the importance of contingency planning. The initiative reflects a growing trend of individuals and families taking proactive steps to ensure self-sufficiency in the face of perceived uncertainties.
