From Birth Trauma to Cocaine Addiction: A Mother's Harrowing Account

My baby and I almost died during his birth. The flashbacks were so crippling I couldn't think straight. I needed to silence the noise – so I turned to drink... and then cocaine.

These are the words of Natalie Day, who detailed her harrowing journey through a near-fatal childbirth, subsequent trauma, and a battle with addiction in a personal account.

Day described the overwhelming flashbacks and anxiety she experienced after the traumatic birth of her child, which led her to seek solace in alcohol and later, cocaine. She stated that she needed to purchase cocaine using her child's birthday money, indicating the depth of her addiction.

Her husband, Chris, called for help when she experienced severe bleeding at 32 weeks pregnant, an event that preceded the near-fatal delivery. Following the childbirth, medical professionals informed Day that she was fortunate to be alive, a realization that contributed to her turning to substances to numb the resulting trauma.
