Friends Cast Skips Matthew Perry Documentary

The surviving cast members of the iconic sitcom "Friends" will not be participating in a new Netflix documentary about Matthew Perry's life, according to reports. Despite the deep loyalty and affection the actors shared with Perry, they have opted out of appearing in the upcoming film, "The One About Matthew Perry."

The documentary aims to explore the "tragic life" of the actor, who died in October 2023 at the age of 54. Sources close to the production indicate that the "Friends" cast members were asked to participate but ultimately decided against it.

Mary Robertson, who directed the documentary, stated that the actors' decision was respected. "They decided not to," Robertson said, referring to the cast's involvement.

Perry, best known for his role as Chandler Bing, struggled with addiction throughout his life. His family and friends have spoken about the cyclical nature of his attempts to achieve sobriety. His younger sister, Mia Perry Bowick, recalled that her brother's struggle was a constant battle, often falling short of maintaining a full year of sobriety.

The "Friends" cast stood by Perry through his personal challenges. They were present at his funeral, a somber occasion where they reportedly wept openly. "The funeral was very small, family and close friends only, and then the rest of the Friends cast all walked in together," Mia Perry Bowick shared.

Perry had spoken openly about his addiction in his memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," detailing his experiences with substance abuse and the impact it had on his life and career. He had undergone numerous stints in rehab and struggled with recovery for decades.

Despite his personal battles, Perry was lauded for bringing a unique vulnerability to the character of Chandler Bing, a role that resonated with millions of viewers worldwide. He appeared in "Friends: The Reunion" in 2021, reminiscing with his castmates about their time filming the show and the strong bond they forged over many years.
