A Fresno County employee was stabbed in broad daylight Thursday at Courthouse Park in downtown Fresno. The incident occurred around 1:13 p.m., according to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies stationed at the nearby courthouse responded immediately to reports of the attack and found the male victim. He was transported to Community Regional Medical Center. While the victim was conscious and speaking during transport, his exact condition was not immediately released.
Approximately three minutes after the stabbing, a deputy observed a man in his 50s in the northwest corner of the park, near Van Ness Avenue and Fresno Street. Deputies used a Taser to subdue and detain the suspect. The weapon used in the attack was recovered by authorities.
Sheriff John Zanoni stated that the victim was engaged in his daily work when the assault occurred. Investigators are working to ascertain the motive behind the attack and whether the employee was specifically targeted. Zanoni described the stabbing as "unprovoked."
Officials indicated the suspect would receive medical attention before being booked into the Fresno County Jail. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
