Peterborough City Council is organizing a pop-up event on July 31st, encouraging residents to donate and exchange school uniforms and prom dresses. The initiative, located on Bridge Street next to the Town Hall, aims to help families manage the costs associated with the upcoming school year by promoting reuse and recycling.

"It can be an expensive time for families when it comes to thinking about uniform for the new term in September, so I would encourage them to pop along to this event if they can," said Labour cabinet member for children's services, Katy Cole. The event operates on the principles of reduce, reuse, and recycle, offering a chance for people to swap unwanted items or take what they need free of charge.

This pop-up builds on the success of a similar event held last summer, providing another opportunity to support local families while advocating for sustainable living. Residents are invited to donate clean, good-quality school uniform items or prom dresses. Liberal Democrat cabinet member for environmental services, Chris Wiggin, highlighted the environmental benefits, stating that the event diverts textiles from waste by prioritizing reuse and recycling, thereby minimizing the environmental impact of clothing.

The stall will be open from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM BST at unit 31 on Bridge Street. White and light blue polo shirts are hung up on hangers on a rail to the left. On the right are trousers and black jumpers hung up on the same rail.
