Freddy Peralta Named ALCS MVP as Rays Advance to World Series

Freddy Peralta has been named the American League Championship Series MVP after pitching the Tampa Bay Rays to a 7-3 victory over the Cleveland Guardians in Game 6. The win clinched the series for the Rays and advanced them to the World Series.

Peralta, a former pitcher for the New York Mets, allowed just one run over 12 innings across three appearances in the ALCS. He pitched 5 ⅓ scoreless innings in the series-clinching Game 6 at Tropicana Field, exiting to a standing ovation from the home crowd.

This achievement marks a significant turnaround for Peralta, who struggled with a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts for the Mets during the regular season. He was traded to the Rays at the deadline for three prospects. Despite a rocky debut with Tampa Bay, where he surrendered seven runs against the Rockies, Peralta quickly found his form with his new team.

"This is crazy and I am very happy to be here, to be part of this great group and this great organization," Peralta said following the win. "This is not only mine. We all earned this. This is for the boys."

During the Rays' playoff run, Peralta has posted a 1.08 ERA, allowing only two earned runs. He credited the Rays' coaching staff for his improved performance, stating that their support was instrumental. "When I got traded and when I got here, everything changed," he remarked.

Peralta initially joined the Mets in an offseason trade from Milwaukee, with expectations that he would be their ace. However, his tenure with the team concluded with a 5-9 record and a 4.99 ERA in 22 starts.

The Tampa Bay Rays are now set to face the Milwaukee Brewers, Peralta's former team, in the World Series, which is scheduled to begin on Friday in Milwaukee.
