Freddy Brazier Says Father's Ex-Wife Was Afraid of Him Amid Mental Health and Addiction Struggles
The television personality, son of the late Jade Goody, detailed the impact of his bipolar disorder and cannabis addiction on his family.
Freddy Brazier, son of the late Big Brother star Jade Goody, has revealed that his father's ex-wife, Kate Dwyer, was "scared" of him due to his severe mental health and addiction issues. Brazier, 22, spoke about his experiences with cannabis addiction, being sectioned at 17, and spending his 18th birthday in a psychiatric ward.
Brazier, who was diagnosed with ADHD at age ten and has bipolar disorder, described episodes where he felt he was not himself and scared those closest to him. "I knew that my dad's ex-partner was scared of me. She made it very clear," he stated in an interview on The Terry Stone Connection podcast. "Part of me was scared of myself." He added that these episodes were once very regular.
He expressed understanding for his father Jeff and other family members' fears that he could end up in prison or die. "I don't want to do that to my family, either of them things," Brazier said, recounting times he felt close to death or found himself in dangerous situations, including an instance where a knife was held to his neck during an episode.
Brazier acknowledged the need for "deep work" on himself and plans to begin therapy. He previously claimed his grandmother, Jackiey Budden, introduced him to drugs at age 12. His father Jeff had attempted to use court documents to restrict Brazier's contact with Budden for his safety, as they would smoke cannabis together at her home. Brazier sided with his grandmother, and the legal action was dropped.
Last year, Brazier announced his addiction to smoking from a young age and his intention to enter rehab. Kate and Jeff Brazier announced their separation in November of the previous year after seven years of marriage.
In another revelation, Brazier admitted to taking money from the BBC show budget while filming "Race Across The World" in 2024 with his father. He used funds allocated for the contestants to buy marijuana and smoke it on a beach in Brazil, citing difficulties coping on Mother's Day during the competition.
