Freddy Brazier Discusses Mental Health Struggles Amidst Relationship with Grandmother

Freddy Brazier has described his relationship with his grandmother, Jackiey Budden, as mentally taxing, particularly after revelations that they smoked cannabis together. Brazier, 22, the son of the late Jade Goody, has experienced a turbulent dynamic with his grandmother, which has also involved his father, Jeff Brazier.

Jeff Brazier had previously attempted to legally restrict Freddy's contact with Jackiey, expressing concern over her influence. These concerns stemmed from reports that Freddy and Jackiey would smoke cannabis together, with Freddy stating that his grandmother got him "hooked" on the drug.

Reflecting on these struggles, Brazier stated on "The Terry Stone Connection" podcast that he believes many of his mental health issues are linked to his grandmother's influence. He noted a similarity in their thought processes, particularly concerning overthinking and negative thought patterns.

Brazier also shared his discomfort when his grandmother compares him to his late mother, Jade Goody. He described the comparison, "oh Freddy is Jade with a penis," as something he doesn't know whether to find hurtful or amusing.

Despite acknowledging the difficulties and his love for his grandmother, Brazier emphasized taking personal accountability for his actions. "No one's to blame other than myself," he asserted, adding a somber reflection that he felt he was "always going to be troubled and go down the wrong path."

He recounted that he began smoking cannabis at age 12, though not with his grandmother for the first time. However, he identified Jackiey Budden as the person who introduced him to marijuana and led to his addiction. Brazier revealed a history that includes time in rehab, being sectioned, and experiencing manic episodes.

Freddy Brazier lost his mother, Jade Goody, to cervical cancer in 2009 when he was four years old. His father, Jeff Brazier, raised Freddy and his older brother, Bobby. The relationship between Jeff and Jackiey has been marked by conflict over the years, often centering on Freddy's contact with his grandmother.

In June 2025, Brazier and Budden were reportedly seen smoking suspicious cigarettes near Tower Bridge. Onlookers described an aromatic smell distinct from typical tobacco. Jackiey Budden was quoted as saying, "As long as Freddy smokes with me he's safe. At least I know what he's smoking as it's nasty out there."

Brazier also previously claimed he feared his grandmother might harm herself if he did not "prioritize" their relationship, especially amid her feud with his father. He had also expressed a realization, in a TikTok video, that his grandmother had been lying to him for years, though by December, he appeared to have reconciled with her before Christmas.
