R&B vocalist Freddie Jackson, renowned for his chart-topping hits and smooth tenor, has died at the age of 69, his family announced Tuesday. Jackson passed away on Monday, October 5, just days after celebrating his birthday.

A statement shared on his official Instagram page confirmed the news, describing Jackson as "more than a legendary voice" and a "kind, generous soul." The family expressed gratitude for his music, which "became the soundtrack to our love stories, our celebrations, and our most treasured memories."

Details regarding the cause of death have not yet been released. In 2024, Jackson disclosed his diagnosis with kidney disease, telling People magazine at the time that he intended to use his experience to advocate for greater awareness and understanding of the condition.

Jackson rose to prominence in the 1980s, amassing ten number-one singles on the R&B charts. His biggest hits include "Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake)" and "You Are My Lady," both released in 1985. The latter track earned him two Grammy nominations in 1986 for Best New Artist and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.

The family has requested prayers for his loved ones and indicated that arrangements and ways to honor his legacy would be shared in the coming days.
