Freddie Foreman, Notorious Gangster Linked to Kray Twins, Dies at 94

Freddie Foreman, a gangster known for his association with the Kray Twins and his role as an enforcer, has died at the age of 94. His family confirmed his passing at a care home in west London on Saturday morning following a brief illness.

Foreman, who earned the nicknames 'The Guv'nor' and 'Brown Bread Fred,' was a prominent figure in London's criminal underworld during the 1960s. He operated alongside the Kray Twins, Ronald and Reginald, as part of their notorious gang, The Firm. While acquitted of murder charges twice at the Old Bailey, Foreman later admitted to committing killings and disposing of the bodies at sea.

His criminal activities included involvement in the disposal of the body of Jack 'the Hat' McVitie, who was murdered by Reggie Kray. Foreman was also associated with the Great Train Robbers and was implicated in the £6 million Security Express cash heist in 1983.

Foreman's godson, Nick Reynolds, described his death as "the end of an era." Maureen Flanagan, a close friend of the Krays, remembered Foreman as "the last of the old-fashioned gentleman gangsters," adding that he was a "very warm man."

In 2018, Foreman's life was the subject of the biographical film "Fred: The Godfather of British Crime," which premiered at the East End Film Festival. He had served a total of 16 years in prison across 15 different jails. Despite his admitted involvement in violent crimes, Foreman also authored two volumes of memoirs and made occasional media appearances later in his life.
