A frantic 911 call released by Atlanta Police captured Calais Campbell's siblings expressing fear for their mother's safety before she was allegedly murdered by her other son, Ciarre Campbell, inside her Atlanta home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026.
One caller, identified as "Mr. Campbell," contacted authorities for a welfare check after neighbors reported seeing Ciarre Campbell, 41, driving his 71-year-old mother Nateal Campbell's car. The caller stated his brother, who has been diagnosed with schizophrenia and other mental illnesses, resides with their mother and had never driven her vehicle before.
"It was kind of a wellness check, my brother, he’s mentally ill, he’s been diagnosed with schizophrenia and some other things. He stays with my mother, And this morning we’re trying to get in," the caller told the dispatcher, according to audio shared by police. "This morning he drove her car, which is very unusual. She never let… he doesn’t drive at all, but the neighbor caught it on camera that he drove off in her car and we can’t get in her house."
Nateal Campbell was found unresponsive inside her home and was pronounced dead at the scene. An arrest warrant viewed by WSB-TV indicates Ciarre Campbell is accused of cutting his mother's neck with a knife. He was subsequently arrested and charged with felony murder, murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a knife during the commission of a felony.
During the 911 call, the sibling on the phone indicated he had attempted to enter the home through a window and that Ciarre Campbell claimed their mother was not inside, a statement disputed by witnesses. The caller's sister and brother-in-law could be heard in the background expressing concern and asking questions.
The dispatcher advised the siblings to remain outside the home until police arrived. Officers gained entry and detained Ciarre Campbell before discovering Nateal Campbell. Police had responded to the Buckhead district home 10 times in the nine months preceding the incident due to issues involving Ciarre Campbell. These calls included reports of a "demented person" between September and November 2025, and on April 12, 2026, police responded to two separate incidents: a fight in progress and a suspicious person. Neighbors reported Ciarre Campbell had turned off the power to the home and was seen standing on a neighbor's air conditioning unit.
Earlier on April 12, Nateal Campbell had reportedly told police that her son had been burning items in the garage, stating he had not taken his medication for schizophrenia. Twelve days later, Ciarre Campbell allegedly started another fire inside the house to "rid the house of the demons," according to a police report. Around that time, Nateal Campbell had been staying away from her home for about a week because her son had "overtaken the home," her daughter told police.
On May 26, police responded to a dispute call from a neighbor who reported Ciarre Campbell was "acting crazy and putting stuff in her trash and yelling at her." Police were allegedly shown video footage from inside the Campbell residence depicting pictures plastered on the walls with "killing someone on it."
Ciarre Campbell is being held at the Fulton County Jail. He was booked early Wednesday morning for his mother's murder.
