Frankie Muniz Describes Hitting 'Rock Bottom' Amid Divorce
The 'Malcolm in the Middle' star shared an emotional Instagram post about recent struggles, while his estranged wife posted a cryptic message about perspective.
Frankie Muniz has revealed he recently hit "rock bottom," describing the past six weeks as an emotional "nightmare" from which he hopes to wake up.
"Everything felt heavy, unclear, and like it was falling apart at the same time," the "Malcolm in the Middle" star wrote on Instagram on Friday. "I wouldn’t wish this season on anyone."
Muniz stated that the unexpected challenge has left him with "nowhere to hide," providing an opportunity for self-reflection and the identification of areas in his life that require improvement. He expressed a desire to become a "better version" of himself, not just a polished public image.
He shared his belief that hitting rock bottom can be a catalyst for necessary change, enabling one to achieve their best life. Muniz anticipates looking back at this difficult period in five years with gratitude, recognizing it as the foundation for future success.
"This isn’t the end of the story. It’s the part where I start doing the work...the uncomfortable, unglamorous, necessary work," he wrote. "I’m choosing to treat this season as the foundation, not the finish line." He concluded his post with a message of encouragement to others experiencing similar struggles, stating, "If you’re in a low place right now too, you’re not broken. You’re being rebuilt. Let's keep going!"
Shortly after Muniz's post, his estranged wife, Paige Price, shared a cryptic message on her Instagram Story: "Life is all about perspective. If you ask the grass, the zebra is the monster and the lion is the protector." She also shared a clip from a podcast featuring divorce lawyer James Sexton, who stated, "the right thing to do is to do the hard thing."
Neither Muniz nor Price elaborated on the specific events leading to their statements.
Muniz and Price announced in July that they were ending their marriage after a private period of separation. The couple married in 2019, having been together for approximately a decade. In their joint statement, they explained that their relationship had evolved into a deep friendship and a co-parenting partnership.
Despite their romantic separation, Muniz expressed gratitude for Price's support and sacrifices during their marriage, emphasizing that their respect and friendship would endure. They plan to continue co-parenting their 5-year-old son, Mauz, and collaborating on Muniz Racing.
Earlier, Muniz shared a photo of himself, Price, and their son during a family outing following a soccer game. "Post soccer shenanigans with the fam. Our little dude got a medal for excellence in sportsmanship!" he captioned the image, according to Entertainment Weekly.
A representative for Muniz did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Muniz, best known for his starring role in "Malcolm in the Middle," has also pursued a career in motorsports, competing in various racing series.
