Frank Skinner Reveals Terry Wogan's Three-Wig System
Comedian Frank Skinner has explained the long-standing mystery of Sir Terry Wogan's changing hairstyles, revealing the broadcaster used a rotation of three wigs.
Ten years after the death of broadcasting legend Sir Terry Wogan, comedian Frank Skinner has shed light on a long-standing mystery: the broadcaster's seemingly ever-changing hair.
Skinner, speaking on his podcast "Frank Off The Radio," revealed that Sir Terry employed a system of three separate wigs, which he rotated to create the illusion of natural hair growth and haircuts.
"He had three wigs that he would put on – weeks one, two and three, so his hair became longer," Skinner explained. "And then he'd go back to one like he'd had a haircut."
Skinner added that Wogan's use of wigs was partly due to a scalp condition. "But, to be fair to him, he had that psoriasis thing on the scalp, so he couldn't really have been on telly without it."
Sir Terry, who passed away at the age of 77 from prostate cancer, was a beloved figure in British broadcasting, known for his long tenure on BBC Radio 2's breakfast show and for presenting the Eurovision Song Contest and the Children in Need appeal.
His son, Mark Wogan, previously shared details about the late broadcaster's final months. He revealed that Sir Terry's prostate cancer was diagnosed after he experienced severe back pain, which led to the discovery of a tumor that was close to severing his spinal cord. Sir Terry underwent surgery, but died just 12 weeks later.
Sir Terry Wogan is buried in Buckinghamshire, alongside his wife, Lady Helen, who died in 2024. The couple had three children.
