The New York Jets have appointed Frank Reich as their new offensive coordinator, a move designed to address a significant coaching oversight from the previous season. Head coach Aaron Glenn acknowledged that his initial hiring strategy for the 2026 season, which resulted in a 3-14 record, contained two primary shortcomings.
Glenn, who was brought in largely for his defensive expertise, admitted he did not exert enough influence over the defense during his first year as head coach. Additionally, he recognized the need for an experienced offensive coordinator to guide the team's offensive strategy, an area where he possesses less familiarity.
The hiring of Reich, a seasoned offensive mind, is intended to rectify the latter issue. Reich has already expressed enthusiasm for working with the Jets' 35-year-old quarterback, Geno Smith. Glenn hopes these strategic adjustments will lead to a more successful third season as head coach and contribute to the team's long-term stability.
