France Faces Widespread Protests and Disorder

An estimated half a million people participated in protests across France on Saturday, demanding increased investment in education and action against the rising cost of living. The demonstrations saw cars and buildings set ablaze, and shops were ransacked.

According to France's interior minister, approximately 400 individuals were arrested as riot police deployed tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowds. The unrest follows weeks of student-led protests that have now merged with broader public discontent.

Demonstrators expressed growing anger over economic conditions and French President Emmanuel Macron's handling of the crisis. Macron has denounced the violence, stating on social media that vandals and looters will be prosecuted and punished.
