Fox Sports television personality Nick Wright recently secured a substantial payday of $250,000 at a Las Vegas poker tournament. Wright, co-host of the network's "First Things First," described the experience in an exclusive interview, detailing how he transformed an initial $40,000 investment into his winnings.
The event, organized by "No Gamble No Future," was designed to be a large, streamed game, attracting a diverse group of participants including professional poker players, NBA athletes, and business executives. The tournament was initially linked to Russell Westbrook's charity poker event, which often draws NBA players.
Wright, who has a history of broadcasting and participating in poker programs, found himself at a table with notable figures such as poker Hall of Famer Antonio Esfandiari and fellow professional Michael Mizrachi, as well as actress Jennifer Tilly. He explained that due to some participants backing out, he was able to join the game.
Wright noted that while his $40,000 buy-in was modest compared to some others, such as Esfandiari's $250,000 buy-in, it was significant within the context of the game. He recounted a key hand where he successfully bluffed actress Jennifer Tilly with a bottom pair, which he described as the moment that set him on his winning trajectory.
"The game is called. I bought in for 40 and I never rebought … and in front of me is $250,2000," Wright stated, confirming the final amount he won.
Regarding his winnings, Wright indicated that he does not plan on making extravagant purchases. He mentioned that he occasionally buys himself a watch as a memento from significant gambling wins. His wife, Danielle Wright, has reportedly already made some purchases with the winnings.
Wright has a history of engaging with the gambling world beyond poker tournaments. Last year, he revealed to The Post that he placed a $10,000 bet with the potential to win $2 million on the Minnesota Timberwolves to win the NBA Finals. While that bet did not pay off, he characterized it as a value wager made before the team's odds improved.
