A Fox News reporter was left visibly surprised after interviewing a man at a Donald Trump rally in Rock Hill, South Carolina, who compared the president and his supporters to the Jonestown massacre cult.

During the interview on Thursday, reporter Lucas Tomlinson asked a man named Tom why he was attending the rally. Tom responded, "Well, in the late 70s I was a little too young to get involved and go to South America for the Jonestown massacre. But this is as close as I'll ever get. So that's why I'm here."

Tom further elaborated, stating, "Nothing like seeing a cult right up front, man." The reporter, initially taken aback, acknowledged that Tom might not be a supporter of the president before abruptly ending the interview.

The Jonestown massacre occurred in 1978 in Guyana, where over 900 people died under the leadership of cult figure Jim Jones. The tragedy became one of the deadliest mass deaths involving a religious cult in modern history, with many victims consuming a cyanide-laced drink.

Trump was in Rock Hill to rally supporters ahead of the November 3 midterm elections. He was joined by Senate candidate Darline Graham and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, who is running for governor.
