Fox News Media CEO Rings Nasdaq Closing Bell for Network's 30th Anniversary
Suzanne Scott celebrated three decades of the network alongside original hosts and longtime employees.
Fox News Media CEO Suzanne Scott marked the 30th anniversary of the Fox News Channel by ringing the Nasdaq Closing Bell on Tuesday at Nasdaq MarketSite in New York City. Scott was joined by original hosts Lauren Green, Trace Gallagher, Steve Doocy, and Brit Hume, along with FOX News Media President and Executive Editor Jay Wallace and other employees who have been with the network since its launch.
Fox News Channel began broadcasting on October 7, 1996. In her remarks before ringing the bell, Scott acknowledged the network's inception, stating, "Three decades ago, Fox Corporation Chairman Emeritus Rupert Murdoch launched Fox News with an ambitious idea to give audiences another voice in the national conversation and to build a news organization that provided balance to all Americans."
She highlighted the growth of Fox News Media from a single linear network to a multi-platform entity that includes digital, streaming, audio, and book divisions, attributing this expansion to the leadership of Fox Corp Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer Lachlan Murdoch. Scott noted that the various Fox News Media platforms reach over 200 million people monthly.
"Milestones like this are about recognizing the people behind our success, the journalists, producers, technicians, correspondents, executives, and countless colleagues who show up every day with inspiring skill, energy, determination, and a genuine commitment to their craft," Scott said. She also extended gratitude to the viewers who have welcomed the channel into their homes. "And they are about the viewers who have welcomed Fox News Channel into their homes, their workplaces, and their daily lives as we meet them wherever they are," she added.
Scott, who began her career at Fox News in its first year and was recently inducted into the Broadcasting+Cable Hall of Fame, ascended to CEO in 2018. During her tenure, the network has maintained high ratings and expanded its offerings, including FOX News Books in 2020, a brand refresh of FOX News Digital, FOX News Audio, and FOX Business, and new streaming services: FOX Nation (2018), FOX News International (2020), and FOX Weather (2021).
Nasdaq Executive Vice President Jeff Thomas presented Scott with a Closing Bell crystal, referring to FOX News Media as "one of the most recognized and influential media brands in the world." Momentarily after her remarks, confetti in red, white, and blue rained down as Scott and her colleagues officially closed the market trading day. She concluded her remarks by thanking all contributors to the network's success over the past 30 years.
