Fox News contributor Joe Concha has called for Senator Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) to either return to his official duties or resign, as questions surrounding the senator's health persist.
McConnell, 84, has been absent from public view since his hospitalization on June 14. Concha stated on "The Big Weekend Show" that if McConnell does not return in September, "he needs to step down. Enough of this already."
"How many months has it been since we’ve even heard from him directly?" Concha asked. "I don’t want to see ‘proof of life’ photos from a hospital bed anymore. He needs to get in front of a microphone and prove that he can do this job. And if he can’t, he needs to step aside. Period."
It has been approximately 12 weeks since McConnell's hospitalization and slightly longer since he last appeared on the Senate floor. His office has provided limited updates on his condition since the initial incident.
In a statement released by his office in July, McConnell's team announced he had been hospitalized due to a fall and subsequently diagnosed with a mild case of pneumonia. He was later transferred to a rehabilitation facility.
Later that month, a statement from the senator indicated he had not yet received medical clearance to leave the rehabilitation facility and return to work.
More than a month has passed since the last official update, which stated that McConnell had been discharged from the facility and would continue his recovery at home.
On Thursday, Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) stated that McConnell's staff had informed him of an expected return to the Senate on September 14. However, a spokesperson for McConnell told CNN the previous day that there were "no scheduling announcements" at that time.
