Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume described recent polling data as offering little positive news for Republicans, particularly in the lead-up to the 2026 midterm elections.
A new Fox News survey revealed that only 24% of voters consider the economy to be "excellent" or "good," with a significant majority of 76% categorizing it as "fair" or "poor." Hume highlighted the poll's findings on the economy and affordability, stating that these issues are currently at the forefront of voter concerns. The survey indicated that voters trust Democrats more than Republicans to handle the economy by a 9-percentage-point margin.
Furthermore, respondents indicated a preference for Democrats in addressing other critical areas, including income inequality, inflation, health care, and foreign policy. On the issue of immigration, which Republicans previously held an 8-point advantage in April, the poll now shows Democrats with a narrow 1-point lead. Hume's assessment suggests that the current political landscape presents considerable challenges for the Republican party based on these economic and policy-related voter sentiments.
