A fox cub, nicknamed Valor, was freed after a nine-hour ordeal trapped in a drainpipe in Humberston, Lincolnshire. Residents first discovered the cub on Sunday afternoon when they heard its cries coming from beneath a street grate. The animal had reportedly crawled approximately 300 meters through underground wastewater pipes before becoming stuck.

Firefighters were initially called to the scene but were unable to reach the cub, which was lodged about two feet underground in a 10cm-wide pipe. Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue was subsequently called in, alongside Anglian Water engineers and veterinarians, to assist in the rescue effort. Engineers utilized specialized thermal imaging cameras and probes to precisely locate the trapped animal.

Rescuers worked for over nine hours, digging to widen the opening enough to gently pull the cub free. The young fox sustained multiple wounds during its entrapment and underwent surgery. Wildlife rescuers stated that the cub is expected to make a full recovery. The rescue operation highlighted the challenging conditions and the collaborative effort required to save the animal.
