A four-year-old child has died after reportedly being electrocuted by a clothes dryer while playing inside a home in Savonburg, Kansas. The Allen County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an unresponsive child shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6.
By the time deputies arrived, the child’s parents were already transporting their unconscious child to Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute. The child was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Officials have not released the child's name or gender, and the exact circumstances leading to the fatal electric shock remain unclear.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation is ongoing but indicated that no foul play is suspected. "No foul play is suspected at this time, and it appears to have been a tragic accident," the department said in a statement.
The incident occurred inside the family residence while the child was reportedly playing. No further details regarding the dryer's condition or the specifics of the electrical malfunction have been made public.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission offers safety guidance for households with young children, recommending the use of properly installed outlet covers and tamper-resistant receptacles to minimize the risk of electrical shock. Federal safety guidelines also advise parents to use child-protective devices designed to prevent access to energized electrical components.
