Four-Year-Old Dies After American Bully Attack in Virginia
Deputies were forced to euthanize the dog to end the attack on the child, who had recently started preschool.
A four-year-old boy, Garcia Welch, died on October 18 in Louisa County, Virginia, after being attacked by an American Bully dog. The incident occurred around 4:42 p.m. when Louisa County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a 911 call.
Upon arrival, deputies found the child suffering from serious injuries while the dog continued to attack. To stop the assault, law enforcement officers were compelled to euthanize the animal. Authorities confirmed the dog was a mix of American Pit Bull Terrier and bulldog.
The child was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Garcia had recently begun attending Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
Family members described Garcia as "a bright, sweet little boy with a beautiful smile and his entire life ahead of him." A fundraiser has been organized by Indigo Pangea, a family member, to cover funeral and memorial expenses. As of Wednesday afternoon, the fundraiser had raised over $25,000.
The Louisa County Sheriff’s Office expressed its condolences to the family and requested that the community respect their privacy during this difficult time. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the sheriff's office is seeking any information from the public.
