Four Teens Arrested in Massachusetts McDonald's Attack

Four teenagers have been arrested following a violent incident at a McDonald's in Lynn, Massachusetts, where a group of masked youths stormed the restaurant and attacked an employee. The incident occurred on September 18 after a local football game concluded.

Cellphone footage captured the large group entering the McDonald's, with at least two individuals seen assaulting a worker behind the counter. The video shows the group surrounding the employee, delivering punches, and one individual appearing to put the worker in a chokehold near the drive-thru window. The McDonald's franchisee reported that the employee sustained no serious injuries.

The Lynn Police Department initiated an investigation after the assault footage gained traction on social media. Detectives from the Youth Services Unit, with assistance from the gang unit and drug task force, identified four teenagers involved in the attack. Warrants were issued, and all four were taken into custody.

They face multiple charges, including assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace, trespassing, affray, and civil rights violation with injury. Affray is defined as a public brawl that causes terror to bystanders.

The arrested teens are being held in a juvenile detention facility awaiting court appearances. Police have withheld their identities due to their ages and stated that the investigation is ongoing. Authorities are working to identify any other individuals involved in the incident.

Police are also reviewing two other incidents involving large groups of teenagers that occurred over the same weekend, though they noted that only the McDonald's event resulted in violence. The details and locations of these other incidents have not been fully disclosed.

Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson expressed concern over the weekend's events involving young people. "As a father, community member and mayor, I’m deeply concerned by the incidents involving young people in our community this weekend," Nicholson stated. "The Lynn Police Department is actively investigating both incidents, and I have confidence that those responsible will be held accountable."

He added that his office has increased youth-focused investments in public safety, mental health, workforce development, and education. "We will continue to address violence when it occurs, hold individuals accountable and, just as importantly, work together to give our young people the support, structure and opportunities they need to succeed," the mayor said.

Residents have voiced shock and concern over the behavior. Charlie Stevens, a longtime Lynn resident, described the incident as unprecedented in his experience. "It’s just nuts because I was born and raised in this city. I don’t know, it’s just crazy," Stevens told WHDH.

Another resident, Phillip Howlant, reflected on the perceived decline in work ethic and respect among younger generations. "It’s sad that the youth don’t have what we had in the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, you know? They don’t have the work ethic, they don’t grow up with understanding that you behave and you listen to olders, and you don’t do stuff like going to McDonald’s and doing that," Howlant commented.
