Four Rescued From Raging Floodwaters in Los Angeles
Dramatic rescues unfolded in the Pacoima Wash as heavy rains overwhelmed a concrete channel.
Four individuals were swept away by raging floodwaters in the Pacoima Wash in Los Angeles on Thursday morning, prompting dramatic rescue operations by the Los Angeles Fire Department. The incident occurred near 15012 W. Parthenia St. in North Hills.
First responders were alerted to a man and a woman caught in the rapidly rising water of the narrow channel. A rescue helicopter was deployed, and both individuals were successfully extricated from the floodwaters. As these operations concluded, search efforts began for two other people reported missing.
A third person was located clinging to a structure within the wash and was also rescued. The fourth individual initially reported as missing had managed to self-rescue, according to officials.
The emergency occurred as Los Angeles experienced heavy rainfall, contributing to the dangerous conditions in the concrete-lined wash. The Pacoima Wash, like many such channels, can transform into a treacherous torrent during intense storms.
