Four Flight Attendants Injured After Severe Turbulence on United Flight
Passengers reported a loud bang followed by a sudden drop during the flight from Honolulu to Los Angeles.
Four flight attendants sustained injuries, including one who required hospitalization, after severe turbulence struck a United Airlines flight on Wednesday night. The incident occurred on Flight 1157, which was traveling from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Los Angeles, California.
Passengers described the event as a sudden drop accompanied by a "huge bang." One witness reported seeing blood on the head and leg of an injured flight attendant. According to a radio call recording obtained by ABC 7, two flight attendants, aged 58 and 62, suffered neck and back injuries. No passengers were reported to be injured.
United confirmed to The Daily Mail that emergency medical services were dispatched to the gate at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) upon the flight's arrival. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-200 twin jet, carried 190 passengers and 10 crew members.
"It only lasted a couple of seconds, it felt like wake turbulence, but we're smooth now," a pilot communicated to air traffic control, according to reports. Passengers recounted the frightening experience, with one telling ABC 7, "I was watching a movie and all of a sudden we just drop... It felt like we dropped pretty far. It started shaking, everyone was yelling. We were all super scared."
Another passenger stated, "There was a huge bang and then we started falling." After landing, the plane remained on the tarmac for approximately 30 minutes awaiting gate availability. The flight eventually landed safely in Los Angeles.
