Four individuals have died following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 2 in Wrightwood, California. Authorities have identified three of the deceased as 21-year-old Rebekah Cabral-Gonzalez, 19-year-old Jason Potter, and 20-year-old Nevaeh Harper. A fourth passenger remains unidentified.
The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. when a 2016 Hyundai Veloster veered off the scenic mountain road and collided with a utility pole. A preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol indicates that alcohol may have been a contributing factor in the collision. Officials also stated that none of the six occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, and five were ejected from the vehicle.
Two survivors of the incident are currently in critical condition at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. All of the victims were residents of Wrightwood, a small mountain community in San Bernardino County.
Online tributes have emerged mourning Cabral-Gonzalez, who was studying psychology at the University of Arizona and worked as a certified ski instructor and an Applied Behavior Analysis technician. Friends described her as a kind and generous soul. A local resident noted that the victims were young people from the town who often frequented the local skate park and sought to enjoy the night sky.
