Four Children Hospitalized After Fatal Roller Coaster Incident at Six Flags Over Georgia
A man died and four children were injured when he fell from the Goliath hypercoaster, prompting investigations.
Four children were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a rider fell to his death from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday. The deceased rider has been identified as Hassan Kariem, 42, a technology teacher.
Cobb County police confirmed that the four individuals struck by the falling rider were children. Due to their status as juveniles, no further information about them can be released, according to E.D. Smith, the Cobb County police public information officer.
The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on the Goliath hypercoaster, located near Atlanta. Park officials have stated that the roller coaster will remain temporarily closed while investigations are underway.
The Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit and the Georgia Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire are jointly investigating the accident. The latter agency is responsible for the safety oversight of amusement park rides in the state.
Six Flags Over Georgia announced plans to reopen the park on Friday, though the Goliath roller coaster will stay closed.
