Four individuals were arrested and a car was impounded following a street takeover event on Long Island late Sunday night. The incident occurred on Express Drive North in Yaphank, where a large group had gathered for street racing.

Suffolk County Police Department's Street Takeover Task Force responded to a 911 call reporting the gathering. Upon arrival shortly after 1 a.m., officers observed multiple vehicles speeding and racing. As police approached, the crowd dispersed, but authorities were able to intercept a truck towing a trailer that contained a race car. All three vehicles were impounded.

Four men from Meriden, Connecticut, were arrested and charged with unlawful speed contests, sideshows, and races. Christian Vargas Hernandez, 28, also faces charges of reckless driving and unlawfully fleeing a police officer. The other arrested individuals were identified as John Maldonado, 33; Lawrence Torres, 30; and Efrain Rivera, 35.

All four men were issued field appearance tickets and are scheduled to be arraigned at a later date. Street takeovers, characterized by drivers performing stunts and racing in blocked-off areas, have become an ongoing issue for law enforcement in the region.
