Fort Hood Shooter Nidal Hasan to be Publicly Executed by Firing Squad at Site of Killings

Former Army Major Nidal Hasan, convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting that killed 13 people, is scheduled to be executed by firing squad at the military base where the attack occurred, according to Pete Hegseth. Hegseth revealed the details on Thursday, stating that the execution will be public.

"We’re gonna make sure that people are able to watch it, that it’s public, because people need to understand that there’s serious consequences for these types of things," Hegseth said during an interview. Hasan has been on military death row since 2013.

The 2009 attack at Fort Hood, then known as the III Corps and Fort Hood, involved a lone gunman opening fire in a crowded center. The incident resulted in 13 deaths and more than 30 injuries, making it one of the deadliest mass shootings at a U.S. military installation.

Hasan, a former U.S. Army medical corps officer, was convicted in 2013 of 13 counts of murder and 32 counts of attempted murder. The military trial concluded with a death sentence. The execution date has reportedly been set for October 9, 2026, according to reports citing Hegseth.
