Fort Hood Killer Nidal Hasan to be Executed by Firing Squad on Dec. 3
Nidal Hasan, who killed 13 and wounded 32 at Fort Hood in 2009, will face execution at the same military base.
Convicted Fort Hood mass shooter Nidal Hasan is scheduled to be executed by firing squad on December 3 at 1 p.m. at the military base where he carried out his 2009 attack, Secretary of the Army Adam Telle announced Tuesday night. Hasan, a former Army major, killed 12 U.S. service members and one civilian, and wounded 32 others during the November 2009 shooting at Fort Hood.
The method of execution, firing squad, was recommended by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and approved by President Trump on Monday, according to Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell. Parnell stated that Hasan was shouting "Allahu Akbar" during the attack. Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, attacked troops who were lining up for immunizations at the Texas Army base. He was shot and paralyzed by a responding police officer during the incident.
During his trial, Hasan told a military judge that he was defending the Taliban. He was sentenced to death by a military court in 2013. Hasan will be the first service member to be executed by the armed forces since 1961.
