Former WH Press Secretary Declares Loyalty to Trump After Brief Tenure
Katie Zacharia remains 'ruthlessly loyal' to Donald Trump despite the former president publicly remarking that she 'freaked out' during her five-day stint as White House press secretary.
Katie Zacharia, who served as White House press secretary for just five days, has stated that she remains "ruthlessly loyal" to former President Donald Trump. Her loyalty persists even after Trump recounted an incident where he said she "freaked out" in front of the press corps during a rally in Florida.
Trump's remarks about Zacharia, 41, came after her brief tenure was cut short due to a series of gaffes and what he described as nervous performances. "No wonder that poor young woman - she was a perfect, beautiful woman - when she walked into that press room and they started screaming at her, she freaked out," Trump told the crowd.
Despite this public comment, Zacharia expressed her continued support for the former president. "It was an honor to work for President Trump, and no one has been more relentlessly attacked by the media than him," she told Newsweek. Zacharia added that she believes "the best is yet to come" and highlighted her week in the Trump administration, noting that she worked "around the clock" in the lead-up to the midterm elections.
She also invoked Rudyard Kipling's poem "If—," suggesting she witnessed the president embodying its themes during their time together. "Working around the clock with world leaders - bringing hostages home and brokering peace - while speaking to crowds of Americans to win the midterms and deliver for the people," Zacharia said, describing her experience.
Zacharia's five-day tenure made her the shortest-serving White House press secretary in history. Initially, Trump defended her, attributing her struggles to unfair media treatment and dismissing concerns about her background as irrelevant. He later reportedly asked Zacharia if the role was for her and suggested he might have reconsidered if he were in her position.
Her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt, offered a candid assessment of Zacharia's brief time in the role, stating that it "obviously wasn't for her." Leavitt, who served as press secretary for nearly two years, emphasized the demanding nature of the job and the extensive preparation required, noting that she "prepared like heck" by studying and consulting with Cabinet members and the president.
Zacharia also faced scrutiny regarding her legal credentials, as it was revealed she had failed the California bar exam in 2011. She subsequently worked at a law firm in Beijing with her husband but never passed the bar exam, despite appearing on news channels as a legal analyst identifying herself as a lawyer.
Her difficult debut included a notable appearance on Sean Hannity's Fox News show shortly before her dismissal. During the interview, Hannity pressed her on her briefing performance and her self-identification as a lawyer despite failing the bar exam. Zacharia attributed her challenges to a rushed hiring process and insufficient preparation time, but the interview intensified the public focus on her short tenure.
