Former TV Anchor Sentenced to Life in Prison for Mother's Murder
Angelynn Mock pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for fatally stabbing her mother on Halloween 2025.
A former St. Louis television news anchor has been sentenced to life in prison for the fatal stabbing of her mother on Halloween 2025. Angelynn "Angie" Mock, 48, will be eligible for parole after serving 25 years, a Sedgwick County District Court judge ruled.
Mock reached a plea agreement after being charged with first-degree murder. On the morning of Oct. 31, 2025, authorities discovered her mother, 80-year-old Anita Avers, with multiple stab wounds inside her Wichita, Kansas, home, which she shared with Mock and Mock's stepfather.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock made statements indicating she believed her mother was the devil and that she killed her to "save herself." Mock's stepfather told KAKE-TV that she had been diagnosed with mental illness, experiencing delusions and depression, and may have suffered from bipolar disorder, which was later believed to be schizoaffective disorder.
Despite these claims, a judge found Mock competent to stand trial in July. She pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder in August.
Prior to her arrest, Mock worked in software sales. She was a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, and before that, a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
