Former Texas Roommate of Arch Manning Mocked for Leading Oklahoma's Celebration
Parker Livingstone, who transferred from Texas to Oklahoma, faced online criticism for celebrating his new team's upset victory over his former squad.
The Red River Rivalry took on a personal dimension this season for Parker Livingstone, a sophomore wide receiver who transferred from the University of Texas to the University of Oklahoma. Livingstone, who was previously the roommate and teammate of Texas quarterback Arch Manning, found himself on the opposing sideline for the highly anticipated contest.
Oklahoma secured a dramatic 27-24 upset victory over the then-No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns, with a late field goal sealing the win. While Livingstone did not record any statistics in the game, he joined in the post-game celebrations, notably by leading the Oklahoma band. This action drew mockery from some online observers who pointed to his lack of on-field contribution.
Social media users quipped about Livingstone's celebratory role, with one comment stating, "Don't ask him how many catches he had!!" Another user remarked, "I didn't even know he was in uniform today. But congrats to him, I guess." A common sentiment compared the situation to a group project where someone contributes minimally but shares in the success.
Livingstone's decision to transfer from Texas stemmed from the school's stated intention to recruit heavily from the transfer portal for wide receiver positions. Texas ultimately acquired Cam Coleman, a highly-rated receiver from the portal. Livingstone acknowledged the influence of having an agent in navigating these decisions, stating in the spring, "If I didn't have an agent, I would probably still be in Austin right now."
Despite losing Livingstone, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian had expressed a competitive desire to defeat his former player, telling reporters at SEC Media Day, "I hope we kick his a**." Sarkisian elaborated on the intense rivalry, noting, "He chose to go there. He's on the other side. After the game, I'm sure I'll give him a big hug. Before that, we're trying to beat his a–. That's the way it goes."
