Former Stripper Finds Faith, Aims to Help Others Escape Sex Industry
Hannah Hirsh, who worked in strip clubs for five years, says a spiritual encounter led her to leave the industry and start a ministry dedicated to aiding women in similar situations.
Hannah Hirsh, who spent five years in the sex industry as a stripper, has found a new path after an encounter with Jesus Christ. She now dedicates her time to helping other women leave the industry through her ministry, "Kept by Grace Ministry."
Hirsh described her time in strip clubs as "very dark," witnessing widespread addiction, drug use, and even trafficking. She admitted to struggling with addiction herself during her tenure. "A lot of the things that I saw while I was in that life for five years was very dark," Hirsh told Fox News Digital. "You see a lot of addiction. I even got involved into addiction myself. You see drugs. You see alcohol… you even see trafficking."
She cautioned women who might consider stripping for financial gain, stating, "You don't realize the door that you're opening, and you don't realize all of the darkness that comes with it… This all comes with that lifestyle and just feeling empty inside, feeling dead inside and just going against your morals just for money."
Hirsh's career in the sex industry came to an abrupt halt in 2020 when local clubs closed due to the pandemic. This period of quietude allowed her to reconnect with her faith. "Society makes it seem like this luxurious lifestyle is the goal, but what I have truly learned is the goal is Jesus. The goal is eternal life. That is the true goal. And true riches are found in God," Hirsh stated.
She observed that many women in the industry are struggling with substance abuse, using drugs and alcohol to cope with their work. "You're constantly being degraded on a daily basis. So, it's not empowering you at all — it's actually belittling you and making you feel less than. But because you are walking away with money, you think that it's empowering you, but just as fast as that money comes is just as fast it goes," she explained.
Hirsh founded "Kept by Grace Ministry" to actively visit strip clubs and offer support to women seeking to leave the industry. She also addressed misconceptions within Christian communities about the possibility of redemption for those in the sex industry. "For the Christians that believe strippers are beyond saving, I would say that they don't have a true relationship with the Lord… Jesus sat and ate with prostitutes. Jesus was going to those that the Pharisees were calling too dirty… So for the Christians that believe that strippers are too far gone, I would say that you need to understand the heart of God because no stripper, nobody is too far gone for God. No matter what they have done, God can redeem anybody," Hirsh said.
Hirsh aims to plant seeds of faith and hope, believing that ultimately, it is God who facilitates growth and change in individuals' lives.
