Jake Wright, a former defender for Sheffield United, has transitioned from professional football to education, now serving as head of Year 8 at Newfield School.

Wright, who spent four years with Sheffield United, brought significant experience to the team when he joined in 2016 under manager Chris Wilder. He had previously captained Oxford United for five seasons and played for Halifax. During his time with Sheffield United, Wright played 30 matches in a single season without a loss, contributing to the club's promotion with over 100 points.

His former manager, Chris Wilder, expressed surprise at Wright's career change, acknowledging it wasn't a path he had anticipated for the player. Teammates also shared their amusement and intrigue at Wright's new profession. Paul Coutts, a former midfielder, described Wright as an "unassuming lad" with a "dry sense of humour." Chris Basham, who was part of Sheffield United's defense, noted that while teaching might not be his personal choice of work, he recognized Wright's leadership qualities and his potential to guide young people.

Wright's move into education marks a significant shift from his athletic career. The transition highlights a different facet of his capabilities, with former colleagues recognizing his potential for leadership and guidance in this new environment. His experience as a captain in football appears to translate into his current role, where he is responsible for a cohort of students.
