Chloe Thompson, formerly an orthopedic nurse, has found significant financial success and personal fulfillment by becoming a full-time reseller on the online marketplace Vinted. Thompson, 32, was inspired to pursue reselling after assisting her partner with his antique dealing business and became captivated by the process of finding bargains. She has since quit her nursing career and now earns thousands of pounds per month by reselling items sourced from charity shops and wholesalers.

Thompson began her reselling venture with a modest £10 investment in secondhand goods and a few items from her own wardrobe. Individual items typically cost her no more than £5 to acquire and are sold for between £15 and £30.

Thompson sources her inventory by purchasing large bales or boxes of clothes from wholesalers, a process she describes as a gamble due to the unknown contents. She finds it unusual that this blind purchasing is common in reselling, unlike traditional retail. She plans to expand her operations by potentially acquiring an office or warehouse space as her business grows. Thompson noted that the period leading up to the festive season is particularly strong for sales. She also observes that the start of new seasons often drives demand as consumers update their wardrobes.

Reflecting on her achievements, Thompson highlights the consistent growth of her business and the surreal experience of building it from scratch to occupying a full room with inventory. She advises new sellers that understanding profitability on platforms like Vinted takes time and practical experience, rather than expecting to know everything upfront. Thompson believes that mistakes made during the learning process have been as valuable as her successes.
