Former NFL Player Damien Woody Hospitalized After Procedure

Former NFL player and television analyst Damien Woody revealed on Sunday that he has been hospitalized following a colonoscopy, during which doctors removed his appendix and a portion of his colon. Woody, who spent 15 years as an NFL analyst for ESPN before his contract was not renewed in August, shared the health update via an Instagram post.

"Want to give folks a health update," Woody wrote in his post. "Had a colonoscopy and from that have been hospitalized after having had my appendix and part of my colon removed. I want to thank all the doctors and nurses at Morristown Medical Center for the tremendous care I received. For the masses…mmm please get your checkups! Life is too short and too precious."

Woody's departure from ESPN concluded a lengthy tenure with the network, where he appeared on shows such as "SportsCenter," "NFL Live," "Get Up," and "First Take." He had joined ESPN less than two weeks after announcing his retirement from the NFL on July 26, 2011.

Prior to his broadcasting career, Woody was a two-time Super Bowl champion during his time with the New England Patriots. He also played for the Detroit Lions and the New York Jets during his NFL career from 1999 to 2010.

Woody is now part of "The OG Football Show" on YouTube, a program he hosts with former ESPN colleagues Trey Wingo, Mark Schlereth, and Merril Hoge.
