Andrew Lack, the former chairman of NBC News and MSNBC, was recently observed power walking through Central Park on a warm day, dressed in a dress shirt and suit pants. A media insider confirmed that Lack was on his way to a business meeting in Midtown after departing from the Upper East Side. Despite the unseasonably warm weather, Lack, 79, appeared to be maintaining his routine, which a friend described as averaging 14,000 steps on weekdays and 20,000 on weekend days.

Lack's career in media is notable, having previously served as CEO of Bloomberg Media Group and CEO of Sony Music, in addition to his leadership roles at NBC News. His tenure at NBC News coincided with several high-profile events, including the scandal involving Brian Williams and the ouster of Matt Lauer. He also oversaw the tenure of Megyn Kelly on "Today."

Beyond his executive roles, Lack has also been involved in supporting journalism. He is currently the executive chair of Deep South Today, a network of nonprofit newsrooms in Louisiana and Mississippi. This year, he committed $7 million to support nonprofit journalism, adding to a previous $5 million contribution over the past decade. His commitment to walking as a mode of transport and exercise predates his time at NBC; he has been known to walk whenever possible, a habit that has continued throughout his career.

Lack's career began in 1976 when he was hired by Don Hewitt, the creator of "60 Minutes," as a producer. He recently commented on the situation involving journalist Bari Weiss at the CBS News program, expressing surprise and regret over the reported difficulties.
