Former Liverpool winger Jordon Ibe has avoided jail time after pleading guilty to assaulting his ex-girlfriend and pulling a braid from her head during a dispute over money. The 30-year-old footballer was sentenced at Croydon Magistrates' Court on Friday.
Ibe was handed a 12-month community order, 80 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to complete 27 days of rehabilitation activity. He was also fined a total of £764, which includes a £114 surcharge and £650 in court costs. The court heard that the incident occurred on December 14 outside the ex-girlfriend's home in Lambeth, south London.
During the confrontation, which began when the ex-partner, Amie Mayson, demanded repayment of money she claimed Ibe owed her, the footballer reportedly said, "No, I'm going to be a p***k." The situation escalated when Ms. Mayson called him a "druggy." Ibe then grabbed her arm and hair, pulling a braid from her head, leaving her with a bald patch.
In court, Ibe stated he was "genuinely remorseful" and had made a "serious mistake." He added, "I cannot change what I did but will take responsibility for what I do next." The prosecutor indicated that the assault left Ms. Mayson's confidence, self-esteem, and self-worth "on the floor."
In a victim impact statement, Ms. Mayson conveyed the significant physical and mental impact of the assault, noting that despite residual fear, she felt compassion for Ibe and that forgiveness was part of her healing process.
Ibe, of Chislehurst, south-east London, initially denied the assault occasioning actual bodily harm charge in March but pleaded guilty in July. The court was informed that Ibe and Ms. Mayson had been in an "on and off" relationship since late 2024. Ibe previously made 58 appearances for Liverpool before playing for Derby County, Birmingham City, and AFC Bournemouth. He currently plays for Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League, having played non-league football in the two years prior to his move in November 2025.
