Former JP Morgan Banker Recounts Ordeal of Domestic Violence

Kathryn Benwell, formerly a top banker at JP Morgan, has come forward to share her harrowing experience of domestic violence, emphasizing that such abuse can occur to anyone, regardless of their societal standing or financial independence.

Benwell recounted that her life appeared perfect when she met her second husband. However, this perception shattered when he revealed a violent side, leading to an assault that left her hospitalized.

“If domestic violence can happen to me, it can happen to anyone,” Benwell stated, aiming to break the stigma often associated with victims of abuse.

Her account details a situation where initial charm concealed escalating abuse. The violence became so severe that, by 2023, her daughter expressed profound concern for her mother's safety, reportedly telling her that if she didn’t leave the relationship, she would end up dead.

Benwell’s ex-husband faced charges including one count of grievous bodily harm (GBH) and three counts of actual bodily harm (ABH), stemming from attacks that included breaking her nose. He was taken into custody awaiting trial in September of that year.
