Bella Younger, who gained fame as the satirical influencer Deliciously Stella, has shared the harrowing experience of her husband Ben's near-fatal illness and subsequent cancer diagnosis. In March 2025, Younger posted on Instagram for the first time in two years to share the story of how Ben's chest infection almost killed him.
Younger, who previously poked fun at clean-eating fads and the wellness industry, had stepped away from her influencer career in 2020, seeking stability in a corporate social media marketing role. In August 2024, her husband Ben, then 47, fell ill while the couple lived in Majorca. Initially dismissing his cough as 'man flu,' Younger soon realized the severity of his condition when he was admitted to the hospital.
Ben's illness progressed rapidly. He was diagnosed with a chest infection caused by the bacteria pseudomonas aeruginosa, which led to sepsis. As the bacteria mutated, Ben required increasingly potent antibiotics. Six weeks into his hospital stay, he began coughing up blood and was placed in a medically induced coma for another six weeks. During this period, he suffered multiple organ failure and a heart attack. Doctors informed the family that he was unlikely to survive and had exhausted all but one experimental antibiotic.
Miraculously, the new antibiotic proved effective, and Ben began to recover. However, shortly after being moved from intensive care, he was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. He was subsequently moved to a hospice, where doctors suspected the cancer had reached its final stage. An MRI scan revealed a life-threatening infection, leading to emergency surgery for an abscess in his neck. Against the odds, he survived and entered remission.
Following his discharge from the hospital, weighing just over 6 stone, Ben and Younger were married in their village in Majorca. The ceremony was expedited due to the uncertainty surrounding his health.
With Ben's recovery underway, Younger faced financial challenges. Her four-month absence from work due to her husband's illness resulted in job loss due to company restructuring. Unable to find suitable work that allowed her to live in Spain and care for their two young children, she considered returning to social media.
Younger decided to build a new career by helping creators and businesses navigate social media in a healthier, more sustainable way, focusing on mental well-being. She began writing about her experiences on Substack and eventually started consulting clients. To support this venture, she reactivated her Instagram presence, sharing her husband's story. The outpouring of support from her former followers, she noted, was deeply emotional.
Younger stated that her current approach to social media is not driven by fame or followers but by a desire to support her family and find peace online. She aims to teach others to build strong personal brands and grow steadily without risking burnout, drawing from her own past struggles with the pressures of the influencer world.
